The Decline of Western Civilization (Part 1—Miley Cyrus, Chrissie Hynde, and…)

Miley CyrusI mean, do I have to be the one to say: “Miley, could you please put some clothes on, because 1) You’re embarrassing yourself; and all the rest of us, 2); and 3) ISIL is threatening to hold hostages until you do? We got the gist of it, you know, your point, both of them: the inverse proportions between fame and clothing, twerking and working, etc., but you can give it a rest now; you’re getting older; and there are other people in the world, also, who shouldn’t necessarily be subjected to your bad taste, without going into the question of your right to do it. Your ‘fluid’ sexuality will be intact, and we’ll even throw in a box of M&M’s…

It’s hard to admit that our culture has lost its way, gone wrong, horribly wrong, but how can you look at Miley Cyrus’s recent appearances on TV and disagree? Should we really be in a constant state of sexual titillation…or disgust? Liberal permissiveness should have limits, too, sorry. And there was no better example of liberal **ow jobs than the response to Chrissie Hynde’s second thoughts on a previous case of rape in which she reflected on her own behavior on that one fateful night, wishing she had done things differently. Keep in mind that only she knows exactly what happened as only she was there…

Western Liberalism is over, almost dead and gone. It’s sad as I’ve always considered myself a pretty staunch liberal, if not exactly concerned with strict adherence to the standard talking points. The problem is that people want soft easy answers to hard difficult questions. Personally I’m not trying to win any Liberal merit badges or earn any Brownie points (remember them?), BUT… narrative is not equal to truth, and the liberal narratives on many issues should be subject to revision, the better to prepare us for a new world, increasingly less tolerant of of snow-jobs…

But these revisions contradict liberal dogma, of course, that a woman could be responsible in any way for any violence committed upon her, notwithstanding the sky-high rates of rape against prostitutes, who, we would all have to agree, are in some sense, not ony ‘asking for it,’ but getting paid for it. Of course now you’re getting into liberal narratives on prostitution, heavy on attitude and short on facts, so I won’t go there—different subject…

The liberal narrative on rape is that it is an act of violence committed upon women without asking WHY would a man want to commit an act of violence against a woman in the first place. Then there is the classic attitude that rape is first and foremost an act of forced sex, violence optional. This is where arguments against provocative dress—and behavior—come in, and for the most part, women just don’t want to hear it. Of course the new realities of ‘date rape’ tend to support this position. Bottom line: it’s complicated, and facts should not be subordinated to narrative…

Since the whole rape issue is so sensitive, and many women have probably left this page already, let me use another example to illustrate the failure of Western ‘freedoms’ and ultimate stupidity of American culture to deal with modern issues: an example that better fits liberal narratives. Now we all know about the gun-control issues in this country which has rendered it almost uninhabitable, a disgrace at the least, and solid proof that the US is in no position to lead the world in anything—except maybe consumption and gluttonous consumerism…

Still we never ask ourselves why the average American seems to think he needs a gun in the first place. I mean: the average American is hardly concerned with Constitutional issues. The average American is, however, concerned about protecting his home, and that gun is his fence. Has anyone ever considered real fences, you know: the kind that are literally impenetrable unless someone actually physically lets you in, i.e. NOT Cyclone (TM)? Of course, while conservatives would prefer the gun, liberals would resent the fence…

This is certainly a gross miscalculation of the American Dream. As it is, we have these huge yards behind huge houses in secluded suburbs, all of which derives most closely from the English countryside after which it seems to be modeled. Apparently no one noticed that English cities are different, and for good reason…

So a thief can drive right up to your house, knock on the door, and when no one answers, just barge right in, clean you out, load it all into the van, and just drive off, like nothing ever happened—NOT a good bizniz model. Of course with smaller units in actual cities, non-Anglos have long ago figured this out. The Spanish model, for instance, is totally different, with little or no lawn, and often compensated with internal courtyard, space permitting. Mexicans know the drill. Now can we lose the guns? Somehow I doubt it… (to be continued)
